Born in NYC, Dawa Tarchin Phillips grew up in a multicultural family in Europe and speaks English, German and French fluently.

 

He is an experienced mindfulness expert and meditation teacher, leadership author and social entrepreneur. He is a visiting researcher in the Department of Psychological and Brain Sciences at the University of California Santa Barbara, where his research focuses on the benefits of mindfulness in youth, leadership and human potential.

 

A committed non-sectarian Buddhist practitioner for over twenty years, he also teaches as an authorized lama of the Kagyu School of Tibetan Buddhism in the U.S. and abroad.

Dawa studied and trained as an ordained monk and completed two 3-year midfulness and meditation retreats.

 

He is the president/CEO of Empowerment Holdings, LLC and founder and board member of The Institute of Compassionate Awareness (TICA), a 501c3 registered public benefit initiative that provides secular mindfulness training to school children and youth.

 

Dawa lives, practices and teaches in Santa Barbara, California.
